The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting)

by Eclectic Rhythms Band

From the 2004 CD An Eclectic Christmas Album.  Most of the songs crafted by Dean Olson and Jim Romero have been originals, but there are also cover songs in their catalog.  According to Dean (who played the entire backing arrangement minus the guitars) cover tunes are almost vital to include in your repertoire.  "The way I see it, you need at least a few holiday tunes in the collection so that it's instantly recognizable.  I want the listener to enjoy something fresh as well as familiar.  We just do the classic tunes in a little different style, you know.."

Jim played the guitars in this recording, and he also created this video and posted it online several years ago.  For some reason, it buffers frequently, so if you have that issue, choose the lower quality setting.  It might need to be updated for the current You Tube technology.

Enjoy this one ANYTIME of year!  Merry Merry Christmas!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire  /  Jack Frost nipping at your nose

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir  /  And folks all dressed up like eskimoes

I think everybody knows a turkey and that famous mistletoe  /  Help to make the season bright

Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow  /  Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

Cause they know that Santa's on his way  /  He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his magic Christmas sleigh

And every mother's child is gonna stay up late and spy  /  Just to see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so, I'm offering this very simple phrase / To kids from one to ninety-two

Although this song's been played many times, many ways

Merry Christmas to you.

[SOLO & REPEAT]

Merry Merry Christmas / Merry Merry Christmas

Bright star topping on the tree / Light it up and sing with me

Candy canes and mistletoe / Angels in the Christmas snow
